Mount Parade

Mount ParadeHoly crap what a day for mounts!  I don’t think I’ve dropped so many mounts in one day before.  Yeah I’m a bit of a mount junkie.  Not as much as of an achievement junkie as I once was.  But I got two achievements today and 8 new mounts!!

Started out my day with a simple run to Nagrand (Draenor) to drop off a Highmaul Relic for reputation with the Steamwheedle Preservation Society on my Death Knight.  I see something flickering nearby out of the corner of my eye.  It’s purple smoke.  It’s the Edge of Reality Portal!!  I get excited, run over and click it.  This is a hard to find but a simple gimmie for a mount called the Voidtalon of the Dark Star.  Pretty purple non-flying bird mount.  (See 3D version from link.)

Earlier in the week I was on the Isle of Giants collecting Giant Dinosaur Bones and Primal Eggs.  Having 8 different characters I play, they each had an egg and today they turned into Cracked Primal Eggs (they have a 3 day wait time) and I managed to get all 3 mounts from them.

I also managed to collect over 10,000 bones to get the rewards for those.   A Spectral Porcupette and the Reins of the Bone-White Primal Raptor!  This also gave me a cool achievement of: I’ve Got 9999 Problems but a Bone-White Primal Raptor Ain’t One!

I've Got 9999 Problems but a Bone-White Primal Raptor Ain't One

So then I decide to run two old raids in search for more mounts.  My Paladin finally dropped Experiment 12-B from Dragon Soul!  This put me at 200 mounts!  So got the nifty achievement of Mount Parade 🙂  Although it didn’t take effect until I logged onto one of my Horde characters 😉  Love the Horde 😀

Mount Parade

Which immediately awarded me with a new mount!  An Armored Red Dragonhawk (or an Armored Blue Dragonhawk for my single Alliance toon) So…  Now I have 201 mounts 😀

Then to put icing on the mount cake, I was wandering about Frostridge and found pig-face er I mean Gorok just standing around.  I gave him a quick ass-whooping and got the Great Graytusk mount!  It was a good day to play 😀

That’s 202 mounts!  Now to knock out another 48 mounts to get Mountacular and a Felfire Hawk 😈

My 2 Cents on Flying Mounts

Blizzard and Flying MountsThere’s been a lot of controversy over flying mounts lately with the latest expansion of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.  Yesterdays “Dev Watercooler – Flying in Draenor” or round table discussion, they say they came up with a compromise on their position on no flying in Draenor or other new expansions.

Personally I think they are heading in all the wrong direction with this statement made in that “discussion”.

In an upcoming Public Test Realm build, we will be introducing a new meta-achievement called Draenor Pathfinder. You’ll earn this achievement in Patch 6.2 by mastering the outdoor environment of Draenor—exploring Draenor’s zones, collecting 100 treasures in Draenor, completing the Draenor Loremaster and Securing Draenor achievements, and raising the three new Tanaan Jungle reputations to Revered. Initially, this achievement will award a rylak mount: the Soaring Skyterror, one of the native beasts that roam Draenor’s skies. Players will remain ground-bound on Draenor until a small follow-up patch (6.2.x), when all players who have earned Draenor Pathfinder on at least one character will unlock the ability to fly in Draenor on all their level 90+ characters.

I feel only angered people all the more and here’s my take on the whole thing.

At first it was Blizzard didn’t want to cheapen the experience for players by forcing them to explore on the ground.  So with previous expansions, you had to make max level and pay a hefty gold fee to get the privilege.  It makes sense.  But!  If the player feels cheapened after that, it’s their own fault.  They can choose not to use a flying mount.  Simple as that.

Now they want you to do a number of things in order to get the privilege.  Which will likely be on top of paying gold and being max level.  To this I say, “Hold the fuck on there Hoss!”.

Firstly, over the past five years or so, I’ve invested a few hundred dollars in flying mounts alone.  Either through paying $25 each via the Blizzard Shop, or through purchasing the higher priced deluxe expansion packs.  Warlords of Draenor Deluxe came with a flying mount.  Yet, I can’t use it in Draenor.  Does anyone else think that’s just fucked up?  It is one thing to make me wait until I make max level and pay a fee to fly in a zone.  It’s another thing entirely to tell me that even though I’ve ponied up the dough or busted my hump repeatedly in a dungeon that now I must go through a rite of passage and grind my ass off to use them in your new zone?  I don’t think so Chumley.

One commenter had a great idea though.  I wish I could find it again and quote it.  Essentially, just like having PvP, PvE and RP servers.  Only have flying on certain servers as well.  This way those who don’t want flying can have it and those who do can.  Providing it’s not much code to change.

For me, flying is why I stay with WoW.  I have 175 mounts.  Most of which fly.  I love to explore new and old content flying.  It’s a great time saver, even over flight points.  As they have some sort of tour mode that makes the mount do circles and fly through areas somewhat out of the way.  Hell, I could fly for hours.  It’s cheaper than owning a real plane and there’s less garbage to look at on the ground.  (we are a really lazy race when it comes to keeping our planet clean)

I told Blizzard yesterday the same thing when I filled out their form for turning off my subscription.  I also added,

You may want to put a book or two under that leg in your “Round Table”.  It seems crooked.

Although my account is paid up until October.  (Thanks Jeff!)  So perhaps something will change.  However, I only see it getting worse from my perspective.  Maybe it’s time I finally move on for good.  (I know I have trouble doing that.)

Toon Evolution

Don’t really have a topic to write about that’s been on my mind like I normally do.  Life is pretty much the same for me.  I suppose that’s not bad.  I’m still working part time.  I’m still looking for a good job.  I can’t wait for spring.  That way I won’t mind so much if I have to drive to a job in another town.  Plus, I should have new tires on my car soon thanks to paying the government too much last year.  That will help.

Outside of that, I go hang out with Allen and Adam as much as I can.  When I’m not doing that, I’m playing good old World of Warcraft.  Still enjoying the new Warlords of Draenor expansion.  I play more than I’d like too.  I’d still rather get out and walk more.  If only Mother Nature would cooperate.  I’d really love to hang out with friends more as well.  You know, maybe just chill for a couple of hours watching TV or something and having some laughs.

So I’ve made a wallpaper of all my WoW characters.  I don’t have the raw drawing skills that Adam does, but I can use a computer like no one else I know 😉  You may notice some extreme changes from when I last posted a group shot of the characters I play.  They are the same “toons”, just… evolved 🙂

Orange Stars and Green Clovers

Theodas 2.0 Runes of MagicSo Lucky Charms had Yellow Moons, but Orange Stars?  I want to say the guys at General Mills were high, but I guess that isn’t as crazy as a Blue Horse and a miniature Little Death pet.  Yeah I’ve no clue why I’m still playing Runes of Magic.  It’s not like I even want to really play.  Yet I’ve managed to amuse myself playing it while patiently waiting for new things to watch on Netflix and time between calls, texts and meetings with this incredibly pretty girl who just happens to have been a cheerleader when we were in school.  I mean how freaking cool is that?

The dates we’ve had, conversations and thoughts we’ve shared have been going very well.  I hope to be able to let everyone know soon who this girl is.  Maybe she’ll be my lucky Green Clover.Green Clover

As for Runes of Magic, I think the only things I’m really hung up on is I used to love doing things like Malatina’s Survival Game.  I’ve been running through that daily as of late.  Although have yet to complete it as a 35 Mage / 33 Priest.  RoM also has that certain Charm I like.  However, I think I picked a dead server.  I hardly ever see people in the areas we used to play in.  Though there is some world chat going on, so there are other players.  As well as an impressive list of guilds I could try to join.  I’m guessing they must all be high level players that gather in some new main city.  Varanas is kind of empty too.  Reminds me of Silvermoon and it’s City in WoW.  Dead as a grave these days.

I’d rather show you a picture of the pretty girl I’m currently dating, but instead I’ll show you my Blue Horse and Little Death pet 🙂

Although to be honest, I think I’m ready for a completely different kind of distraction these days.  My gaming days are certainly numbered.

Phenomenal Cosmic Power!

“Itty bitty living space.” ~ Genie

Some days you just feel powerful when you play video games.  Yesterday it was like I was just “in the zone” and “no power in the verse can stop me”.  Nothing like starting a post with several cultural and movie references.  That’s how I felt yesterday.  Didn’t matter what creature I targeted, I made short work of it.  Even got myself a couple of new rides out of the deal.  Well one came from a monster anyway.  I call him Kitty.   Everyone else calls him Huolon.  He’s got a one percent chance of dropping the Reins of the Thundering Onyx Cloud Serpent.  You should check out the 3D views from the links but if not, here’s what this pretty kitty looks like:

Thundering Onxy Cloud Serpent

Sexy; isn’t it?  Even sexier when you see all the cool lightening flashing about him.

The thing about this Timeless Isle, is that it seems to be a playground for Warlocks.  I haven’t yet taken my Death Knight there, but in general, all my other “OP” (Over Powered) characters struggle with creatures on this island.  Not horribly but they do tend to spend more time in the “Walk of Shame” than my Warlock does.  Kyllia isn’t even fully geared yet.  She’s got almost half her items needing serious upgrades.  Yet she walks about just smashing the shit out of anything she touches.  Almost like she owns the place.  Granted, she has yet to meet Ordos and likely never will as you need some cloak that I just don’t care to get involved with.

It seems that yesterday, I guess everyone was all over the Thanksgiving event.  The island was rather quiet.  So when I went about announcing the different “rares” or “bosses” as some call them, I found I was alone.  So first I solo killed Huolon, which shocked me as normally someone always dies when “petting the kitty”.  Even Kyllia on occasion.  Then Leafmender (though to be fair he’s fairly easy for everyone to solo).  Then shocked myself by taking down all three Champions of the Black Flame.  I couldn’t believe my luck.  I didn’t die at all.  So next I wandered up to Cinderfall and called out for help.  He’s rough as his Molten Inferno will generally one hit any player.  Though I’ve got the cure for that.  Turns out you can stand absolutely as far as possible back for your casting abilities.  Send your Blue Berry (Voidlord) in and whittle his grayscale ass to ashes.  His attacks may singe your face a bit but no actual damage comes from it.  Though it’s obvious many have yet to figure this out.  When there are others helping, it’s a mass pandemic of dying animations and sounds.  Just to prove to myself it wasn’t just luck, I solo killed him a second time later on when I found myself alone with him.  It’s sounds selfish I know, but damn it, I gave them a good 10 minutes to carry themselves up to help me.  So eff em’!

Patience is a virgin.  Pft good luck finding one of those these days…

I’m a World of Warcraft Soloist

World of Warcraft SoloistI never expected to be one honestly.  When you decide to play online, you assume you’ll make friends, group up and have a good time together.  Back in the day, it was exactly that, and it was a blast!  I couldn’t wait to get home, log on and do all sorts of crazy fun things with my friends in a fantasy world.  A world where we were rich, powerful and we could explore the world, meet strange new threats and obliterate them with high powered particle effects.  Or have a ball trying to figure it out while dying in hilarious mishaps.  Either way, it was fun as hell.

Then as they say, “All good things must come to an end.”.  That they did.  Of course in my frustration, I made a huge mistake by closing my original World of Warcraft account on the EU servers and starting a new one on the US servers.  It was a whole new world… of warcraft.  The world itself looked the same and the game play was the same.  I had no friends on the US servers to play with.  I tried different guilds, and I see the typical US bullshit in chat.  Gay bashing, politics and trolls galore.  The world was completely different when it came to the quality of the players.  I just can’t find anyone to get along with.  I even tried changing factions.   That didn’t help and the Horde are just straight up ugly fucks.

Then I started exercising more, getting away from the computer more.  Still, I love to log on and do things.  I just found ways to do things alone.  I craft, I solo lower level dungeons and a couple raids that don’t require anyone else to complete.  It’s not like I don’t want to make friends.  However, now I don’t feel the need to commit the time required to play in a group.  As a soloist, I have the prerogative to play when I want, for how long I want and I don’t feel obligated to stay on to help the collective whole.  Hell, I started my own guild again and it’s now level 9.  I did it all on my own.  The extra storage for goods is awesome.   If I ever find my dream geek girlfriend, perhaps she and I can turn it into a duo guild 🙂

I’ve been able to collect a bunch of mounts, achievements and rerun my favorite dungeons.  Granted, I can’t gear up as well without doing dungeons and raids with players of my own level.  I am pretty much restricted to Lich King dungeons and below.  Still I manage to have fun.

Though I sometimes wish I wasn’t so invested in the US account I have, or I’d go back to playing the EU servers.  I love the friendliness and miss my friends there.  Who knows, maybe I will if I get enough encouragement 😉

Flying High Over Skettis

Another reputation grind, 5 more mounts!  Talk about your boring ass rep grind… I’m so glad that’s over and I’m not doing it again (thank goodness for account-wide mounts now).  Finally became exalted with the Sha’tari Skyguard.  This gives me the opportunity to get all the mounts and the pet.  Yeah, like I need more right?

And so without further gilding the lily and with no more ado, I give to you, the seeker of serenity, the protector of Italian virginity, the enforcer of our Lord God, the one, the only, Sir Ulllrrrich von Lichtenstein!!

(love that movie 😉 )

Rivendare’s Deathcharger!!

I got it!  I got it!  {dances enthusiastically but looks more like a spastic monkey on crack}  I got the coveted Rivendare’s Deathcharger!  I’ve been running the Stratholme (Service Entrance) dungeon, almost every day, for a couple of months on 4 different characters.  Beating up that miserable bastard Lord Aurius Rivendare.  Today, my Lucky-Lock Kyllia dropped the incredibly hard to obtain mount!

Rivendare's Deathcharger

Deathcharger's Reins

Just to give you an idea, here’s some of the info quoted by another player…

~ by Tyrsenus on WoWhead

Deathcharger is a black (as per its model skin description) skeletal warhorse mount, notorious for its incredibly low drop rate – perhaps the lowest drop rate of any epic item.

For one run of a given instance, the odds are higher that…

  • Swift White Hawkstrider drops (61x more likely)
  • Ashes of Al’ar drops (40x more likely)
  • Swift Razzashi Raptor drops (28x more likely)
  • Reins of the Raven Lord drops (23x more likely)
  • Fiery Warhorse’s Reins drops (18x more likely)
  • Swift Zulian Tiger drops (10x more likely)
  • Baron’s Runeblade drops (3x more likely)
  • You are audited by the IRS
  • You will catch a baseball at a MLB game
  • You die from slipping in a bathtub
  • You have a life

If you’re in a group, divide the chance by five 🙂

The drop rate is now 1.0% (up from 0.02%) (source).

Although, I think the hardest mount to get these days is the Reins of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake.  This is mostly due to cross server playing now.  There’s generally 5 – 7 players hunting that 24 hours a day.  I’m glad I managed to get that, not only once, but twice before the changes.

Mountain o’ Mounts

Yes, even packing boxes and getting ready for the upcoming move in two weeks, I still manage to have down time to collect things in Warcraft.  My latest additions pushes me over 100 mounts in game and got me the sweet Blue Dragonhawk.  All by finishing off some rep I never bothered with during Kittyclysm, er um Cataclysm.  A whole 2 quests and I got the Brown Riding Camel and Tan Riding Camel from Ramkahen.

Grand total of mounts now is 102!
