Nothing like a confusing title to a post right? It’s actually a post with three different topics. Haven’t wrote in a few days, figured since I have all this spare time on my hands I’d fill you in. So pay attention my gaggle of geek friends.
Firstly let me get this off of my chest just in case you may have missed it the first 1,453,905 times. I HATE SNOW! Just sayin’. (I hate that phrase as well.) I spent two hours shoveling that wet heavy nasty nonsense. I’m sore all over and several times I felt like I was going to have a grabber. I’m not built for this stuff anymore. Even if I was skinny again, I would hate it. Even as a kid I never liked it much. My mom might tell you differently, but that was because it was a way to get out of the house. Not necessarily enjoy myself. I don’t ski, I don’t snowmobile, I don’t sled or any other outdoor activity when this stuff is on the ground instead of in it. While I can drive in it, I don’t particularly care to do so. Though none of those reasons are why I came back and I knew I’d have to deal with the stuff when I did. Just wish I could be like so many others and leave during winter. Should I get the right job, I may very well start doing so.
Speaking of jobs, I’m still looking for one. I am starting to wonder why it’s so hard. I realize there isn’t many jobs in my profession around here. It’s obviously time to modify my career path. It doesn’t have to be out of computers, just doing something different. Like selling them, selling smartphones or perhaps just using them in an office job. There are tons of those around. Well… Sort of. Right now there doesn’t seem to be many. Sadly most are in towns that are 45 minutes to over an hour away from here. Don’t really fancy driving in the snow to any of those. In the interim, I figured I would sling pizza’s like I used to do when I was young, wild and sexy. I’ve applied at every pizza place in East Jordan and Gaylord. Today, I see two of them looking for drivers. I’m annoyed. What would make them not want a person who actually wants a job doing it? I’ve had plenty of experience at it. I plan on visiting them in person this week. However, over the past two months I’ve applied a literally dozens of places. So far, only two have offered me a position. Both were for stocking. They took one look at me and realized I’m not the man for that kind of work. Yet every one of them has said my resume is impressive. So WTF mate? Time has run out and I need a job, like now!
By the way, job search engines are useless. Firstly, Saginaw and Traverse City are not a hop, skip and a jump from here. Secondly, too many freaking jobs have “tech” in the title. How about matching my skills and not my job title assholes!
Then there’s the fact that I’m a geek. I’m old school geek dammit! I was a geek when it was looked down upon and everyone picked on us types. Now everyone has the black rimmed glasses, wandering around like zombies with their heads down and muttering to themselves. Oh wait, that would be texting while walking. Doesn’t make you a geek since everyone does it. I, on the other hand, played Dungeons and Dragons the predecessor to World of Warcraft and all the other games millions of people now play. Thanks to a long time friend, I’ve been playing WoW again for the past few months. I just can’t stay quit. Frankly I don’t want to quit. I am who I am. And I’m proud to be me. Even if there isn’t many in this town who appreciate that. The reason I bring this up is because I don’t actually look like a geek. I look like every other overweight t-shirt and jeans wearing man. So I’ve begun adding to my clothing collection. Up next will be some nice memorabilia and posters. Gift ideas if you’re looking 😉
Now if I could just get out of this hell-hole and get back to playing my drums!!
