Time to say goodbye to Blizzard and the World of Warcraft…. Blizzard announced today: “World of Warcraft Preview Panel: Mists of Pandaria“, and my heart just sank to the floor. For the first hour I contemplated that this was some kind of sick joke. OK granted, I didn’t start playing World of Warcraft until they were already heavy into the Lich King. While leveling I swore up and down that the game had to barely survive Burning Crusades. Once I got to Lich King content, I fell completely in love with WoW. I couldn’t get enough of the dungeons and raids.
This after many, many MMO’s I’ve tried before that just didn’t do it for me. Mostly because they changed something to the point that I couldn’t stand the game anymore. And that’s after sifting through the millions of MMO’s pumped out of Korea that are all about Asian looks and feel with loads of Kung Fu action.
Now when Cataclysm hit the streets, I was a bit let down by the changes, but I coped and learned to enjoy the changes to my digital world. It was a bit of a struggle at first. The more I played the more I managed. Still… I felt that small tinge in the back of my mind that said, “It’s just not the same.”.
Today it’s as if my chest was punched, and my heart was ripped out and Blizzard just held it to my face while it bled. If it wasn’t bad enough to change the game in Cataclysm, now we are dealing with fuzzy Pandas with Kung-Fu action and a world that looks Asian by design. Every game I’ve avoided now is going to the the next thing I’m having to pay $39.95 and $14.99 a month for? I don’t think so. That’s not the kind of game I wanted to play, and since it’s coming my way, I’m ducking and dodging it by simply quitting all together.
One person I saw today commented, “I don’t know why everyone is surprised, this race was evident in WC3.”. To him I say, “Gee buddy, not everyone has been playing Warcraft for 10 years. Maybe that’s why we are surprised. Dumbass.”.
