Rick’s Cheese Steak Shop

Rick's Cheese Steak ShopEveryday on our way home from work, my wife and I pass our old favorite restaurant.  Sadly that burnt to the ground over a year ago, and they haven’t rebuilt.  Right next to it however, is this little place with a bright red awning.  The label simply state’s Rick’s Cheese Steak Shop.

We walked, in and it’s a “seat yourself” at home kind of place.  The waitress came and got our order for drinks immediately and after a brief viewing of their rather extensive menu (for such a small place), we ordered the Classic 12 inch Cheese Steak (to split) with Mushrooms, Lettuce, Mayo and Banana Peppers.  Also an order of French Fries to share.

Within a few minutes our order was at the table and they even split the sandwich into 2 baskets for us (very thoughtful).  I should tell you now that the picture you see is of their 8 inch sandwich and we didn’t take the picture.  It truly doesn’t do what we got justice at all.

All I can say is Oh My God!  This is, without question, the best Cheese Steak either of us have ever had!  This thing was huge!  It took up the whole basket (and remember this is just half a sandwich).  It was too heavy to pick up and eat, we had to eat over half; of the half of it with a fork first.  It was juicy and just perfectly cooked with quality beef and cheese on a fresh sub roll.  We were so full after eating it, we hardly even touched the fresh french fries.  Yet, I can’t wait to go back!

So if you are in Newport News and want a fantastic Cheese Steak, this is your golden ticket.
