Back in the UK!

I was looking at all the reasons I left the UK servers for WoW, and it was all the reasons for staying I should have looked at.  So I find myself back in the UK!

The cause to my spending months of simply farming mats and building things out of sheer boredom…  Is due to the fact that I’m an East Coast, Daytime player!  The majority of the WoW players in the US, regardless of timezone, play during much later hours than me.  I, on the other hand, am winding down my day just about the same time my UK friends are off for the night.  (midnight their time)  This would give me time to do a bit of farming and then I would be off to bed as well.  Plus and the more important reason, is all my long time friends are still there.  Despite the fact that my wife ran off with another brit :|

There are some caveats to this issue.  One is that I am locked into the free Diablo III offer until October.  I can’t afford to pay for a second WoW account right now.  The other is, I canceled the Gmail account my old account was tied too.  Google has strict policies on not allowing old accounts over 90 days to be reactivated and you cannot re-register the same after…  Then the question becomes do I call Blizzard UK and attempt to persuade them in the nicest of manners to return my original (the very original) Theodas, or do I simply set myself up a starter account (which I already have done to pass the time), and grind up all the thing I can until I can smack down on buying game-time and expansions?  I’ve got some time before I have to make up my mind, gonna take some heavy consideration.

Email vs Facebook

How much of a difference is there really between what people used to do (and still do) with email before the invention of social networks like Facebook, and what people do now with Facebook.  I’ve been using Facebook now for nearly four months now.  I’ve started noticing a lot of similarities between what email was and Facebook now is.

Back in the day, email was the thing and people got angry if they couldn’t get to their emails.  I should know, as I’m the guy who took the calls when customers had issues.  However, if they couldn’t get their daily fix of whatever content they were looking for, they got hostile.

Not a lot has changed really only the method.  Now I don’t take so many calls for email as I do for Facebook.  If a customer’s internet is down, they don’t really even notice it, but if they can’t get to Facebook because of it, they get down right nasty about it.  It’s their world.  They cannot live without it.

As someone who has relented to using social media, all I see is the same regurgatated crap I’ve already seen in mass forwarded emails years ago.  The only real difference is instead of sharing a bunch of email addresses of people I don’t really know, is that now it’s all shared with people I don’t know but have on some list.

* With the exception of relatives in either method.

Back when folks used email to keep in touch, they would send the following items:  (including but not limited too)

  • Pictures
  • Touching messages or images of spiritual and non spiritual of hope
  • Videos and Video Clips
  • Links to websites
  • Links to great shopping deals they’ve found
  • Long diatribes of a bad experience they’ve had
  • Information about places they have visited
  • Warnings about viruses and scams that never existed
  • Warnings about viruses and scams that do exist
  • Protests to stop abuse of one form or another
  • Chain emails
  • Information about online games such as Pogo and the like

The list goes on and on.

Now when I log on to Facebook, I see: (including but not limited too)

  • Pictures
  • Touching messages or images of spiritual and non spiritual of hope
  • Videos and Video Clips
  • Links to websites
  • Links to great shopping deals they’ve found
  • Long diatribes of a bad experience they’ve had
  • Information about places they have visited or are currently at
  • Warnings about viruses and scams that never existed
  • Warnings about viruses and scams that do exist
  • Protests to stop abuse of one form or another
  • Shared posts that insist you share them further (Chain Shares?)
  • A bazillion and one posts about people on your list who did something nearly useless in a game such as Mafia Wars, Farmville, etc.. (that list is friggin endless!)

That list goes on and on.  And on… And on…  {eyes are beginning to bleed}

Ironic huh?  Different methods but essentially it’s the same thing it has always been.  At least from my point of view it is.

Honestly I don’t really see the big fuss about social networks/media.  Then again, I’m just not into having 400 people be my “friend” especially when I have no earthly clue who they are.  But that’s me.  I’ve never been one to want a lot of friends.  I’m more comfortable with a close circle of real honest to goodness friends and of course my family.

But that’s me.

Pseudo-Quitting WoW

To everyone who played World of Warcraft with me, I am sorry but I’m pseudo-quitting WoW.  (hehe I’ve been working with Linux/Unix so long I originally said “sudo-quitting” and it made me giggle as to the imagined outcome of that)  What does that mean? Well it is because I hardly logon these days.  When I do, I do next to nothing except watch guild chat scroll by and make silly remarks or crude sexual references.  Or gather materials and make Mechano-Hogs to sell/give away.  I’m “pseudo” quitting because I have that year subscription that sticks me to WoW until October. However, I don’t fancy I’ll be logging in much from here on out. I’m going to move my toons to a level 1 guild (if anyone wishes to give me a hand with that great :) )

So if you wanna chat, you know my names. Theodas (main – Druid) – Theodes (Mage) – Theodaz (DK) – Theona (Priest) – Kyllia (Lock)

For those who know me and still like me, feel free to add me to friends if you like. Granted, I won’t be around much. Moving on with my life and I’m not really fancying the upcoming Panda Bullshit. Yeah I said it. Unless my UK friends talk me into playing Mists of Pandaria with them, I’ll probably leave WoW forever once my subscription runs out. Maybe I’ll find a new MMO to play. Though I am more into finding myself a real live social life that doesn’t involve stupid ass social networks. (never liked them anyways)

Edit Update:  Apparently, the guild master took this badly and banned me from the guild website.  Fine, be childish about it if you must.  I said thank you and sorry, I don’t know what else to say.

Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain – Power of the Horde [HD]

I’ve played World of Warcraft for over 3 years now.  I started on the UK Servers and then moved to the US servers.  I’ve met hundreds of people in that time.  Sadly, not one of them told me about the Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftain that play at 8pm server time every day.  The play an actual song called “Power of the Horde”.

It wasn’t until I started looking for pictures of drum kits to use on my blog that I stumbled upon this not so hidden but awesome tidbit in Warcarft.  As I remember seeing a drum kit for WoW while doing one of the many runs through Blackrock Depths.  It was in The Grim Guzzler bar.  Upon further reading I found this little piece of info:

Anyone who has Direbrew’s Remote from the Brewfest event can trigger a performance here at any time by talking to the roadie in charge, Ognip Blastbolt.

My Warlock Kyllia just happens to have one of those remotes.  So I took a trip on down to watch the show.

Contrary to belief of people I know, I’m not that big into WoW as they may think.  Turns out this is a real life band comprised of Blizzard Employees that play at all the Blizzcons and have a number of other Warcraft songs they play.  :P

When I went to add this post, all there are on YouTube are old versions of this video in crappy size.  So after 3 days of fighting with a way to convert Fraps (and clip together as it made 3 segments), I uploaded it today to YouTube in HD format :)

Infected Apples

Just as I predicted, Apples across the globe are becoming infected by malware at an alarming rate because of the mass mindset that is the Apple owner.  The “My Mac does not need antivirus, it’s a Mac!” syndrome.

As I’ve said, “Security is still something most Mac users take for granted.  They don’t understand that prevention is better than patching a known problem.”.

I also said, “As I’ve said before, Macs have viruses too.  And with the current growth rate, the bullseye is only getting bigger on Apple’s flagship product.  My personal opinion is if you have a Mac and don’t think you need an antivirus software, you’re an idiot.”.

If you think that your Mac laptop/desktop is safe, think again! The (misplaced) confidence of Mac users, about the security of its operating system may backfire, as happened again, recently in the case of the  BackDoor.Flashback.39, also known simply as Flashback Trojan. More than 600,000 Mac machines have been affected and with no appropriate guidelines from Apple on how to counter that or stay safe, the count may be on the rise. It is said that the infection rates are comparable to the Conficker botnet, which infected many Windows machines.

This is one of those times when “I told ya so!”, makes me feel so evil and good at the same time :)

The mindset Mac owners have will be their undoing {evil laugh}

This is not by far the first virus for Macs and it certainly won’t be the last.  However, I wonder what this will do for Apple’s growth rate on the market.  I’m also curious when the iPads and iPhones will be struck next.  Even though my phone is a Droid, I use antivirus.  Not because there are known issues, but to prevent having issues.  It’s called thinking ahead.

The Remainder of My Life

I’ve had some time now to really think about things.  Now that the initial flames from my nearly fatal incident.  That and everything else that was flooding my mind.  All in all, it’s nearly over.  Time for me to begin fresh one last time.  I realize that I really only have a few years left in this world, and while I mean to squeeze out every last minute by losing weight, eating better, continue walking and being more active.  Time to make new friends and re-embrace the family that loves me regardless of my recent situations.  Everyone involved knows exactly what I mean by that.  Those who don’t, simply need to ask me or watch and learn :)

For many years I’ve chased the dream of a wife and kids.  Three failed marriages and many bad decisions later, I realize that perhaps I was just not cut out for it.  Short of death, communications have been lacking.  I love my kids regardless of what they may think of me.  I love the kids that were never mine as if they were.  They are all grown now and on to lives of their own.  I wish them all the luck in the world not to repeat my mistakes.  While to many this isn’t the highest of goals to achieve.  However, the caveats are that, I never wanted to be rich.  I was always happy so long as the bills were paid and I could come home to them every night.  That was good enough for me, but it seems never good enough for the ones I chose as my partners.  They always wanted more.  For better or for worse meant nothing to them.  When the worse came, they up and moved on.  Claiming things like we grew apart.  We didn’t grow apart, they simply wanted more financial stability.  Proving repeatedly that money means more than love.  I’m hurt emotionally, but I’m surviving.  However I am changing my goals.  I’m not changing who I am.  I still welcome someone to love me.  However they must love me as I am.

HD Video CameraI want to finish my movie.  Really it’s just a short film.  Something I wrote the script for in 2007.  I even went as far as finding voice actors on the net to cover the parts of the callers, the narrator and other fill-ins.  The film itself is nearly done short of needing an actor, and two extras.  A place to shoot, some props and an HD video camera with some software.  OK, so it’s only half done.  I stopped when I realized the equipment I bought was defective and couldn’t get the company Samsung to do anything about it.  With lack of further funds to buy a new camera, I stopped the project and all but forgot about it.  It’s time to dust the pages off, buy a new camera, find some college students eager to make YouTube gold.

It’s about a tongue and cheek look at a support tech and his typical day and how customers could make life so much easier by simply following some rules.  The Ten Rules for Calling Tech Support.  Anyone who has seen the script loved it.  I’m sure it won’t win me any awards, it will still be a load of fun for everyone involved as well as those who watch the finished product.  This is my first goal.  Anyone who can contribute in any way are welcome to do so.  Please contact me!

DrumsMy second goal will require me to save up a few bucks first and buy an old used drum kit.  Because I want to join a band.  I don’t want to join a band trying to be famous like I did in years past.  I just want the group of guys who get together on weekends and jam out in a garage or warehouse somewhere.  Perhaps like in high school, perhaps play at private parties or small gatherings if we happen to be any good.  This would be more of a social experience for me than a venture to make money.  Relive the glory days a bit.  I don’t think I’ll ever be as good as my son on the skins, though perhaps someday I can really sit down and show him his old man can and has.  One thing I gave up to be the dad was my drum kit.  So my children really never have seen or heard me play outside of a Drumscape machine at the Busch Gardens arcade.  Rock on!

The Guild: I’m the One That’s Cool

I remember well the days of being picked on by my classmates.  Bullied (back when we weren’t wimpy little sods that cry on the internet about bullies and all that boo-hoo bullshit we’ve got going on now) about being a nerd, and a geek that played Dungeons and Dragons, and we used computers before the internet and before flipping Facebook.  I get a kick how now all those people who ridiculed me and my friends, now need our help on a daily basis.  Because now Geeks are cool :)

I’ve written about this before, and now The Guild has released a new song / music video saying nearly exactly how I feel these days.

QuikEmotes

Introducing my third addon for gaming.   Like my ever so fun, I’m So Random for Runes of Magic, and my AnnouceRes for World of Warcraft, here’s another time sucking addon for the masses guaranteed to make being annoying fun again :)   This one is for World of Warcraft.

QuikEmotes

Based on Feli’s Emote Button Leiste. This is a smaller version that uses the 20 most popular emotes. It’s a tad leaner and the buttons equally sized for easier reading. English Only. The original author gave me permission to publish this addon and I thank them very much :)

Just click a button and Emote!

At some point I would like to add a border to grab and move it with. To move the button bar, click just below the buttons to move them to your desired location. If anyone knows LUA better that can help me put a transparent border or grab spot, let me know.
